Weekend Getaway

Every weekend, we try to get out of the city for a little while even if it means just going out to one of the forest preserves surrounding Chicago for a couple of hours. Well, this last weekend we were able to go a little further. Nate knocked it out at work and got home around 11 am and we hit the road just in time for Matilda to nap. An hour and a half later she woke up as we pulled in to Lakeside Michigan. Our friends Jim and Jennifer Klatt have a couple of places here and we stayed at their rental home which is just steps away from the lake.
Friday afternoon, we wandered down to the beach. It was beautiful, yet quite chilly so we jumped in the car to find a cafe to warm up in. With the help from the Garmin, we stumbled upon the quaint town of Three Oaks. We found a great little organic cafe and filled up on the most excellent food.

The next morning, we drove (during Matilda's naptime again) up to Saugatuck. I fell in love with this place last summer and it was great to go back. This time, there were no crowds so we were able to stroll down the streets, window shopping the many fun shops and galleries.

We ate, walked the lakefront, and stopped at the swings before hitting the road back to Lakeside. We then headed over to the Klatt's for a wonderful dinner. They have a beautiful 3 month little boy named Joseph who Matilda just loves to stare at. She seems so big and grown up next to him!

The next morning, Nate headed back to Three Oaks for a yoga class while Matilda, Mora and I went walking. Felt so nice to be surrounded by the trees, water, and fresh crisp Spring air.

We ate brunch then went to the Warren Dunes. Reminded me of the sand dunes in Oregon. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing before heading back to Chicago feeling totally refreshed!
