Father's Day

Last Sunday was a very special day for Nate as it was his very first Father's Day. After sleeping in, we loaded the car, hit Starbucks and headed to Barrington to Grandpa and Grandma Freeborn's house. Nathan was able to introduce his darling daughter to all of her Freeborn uncles, aunts, and cousins. Matilda is 8 and 5 months younger than two of her cousins Paxton and Will...it's going to be so much fun watching them all grow up together. After a fabulous feast, Nate took Mora outside and ran around, while Matilda and mommy watched from the window thinking that next year we will all be out there chasing Mora. On our ride home, Nate and I talked about how blessed we are to have such a wonderful family, beautiful little girl and sweet, yet crazy puppy. We had a great day together as a family and know that Matilda is so fortunate to have such a loving and caring daddy!

Matilda Meets Grandma

Last week Grandma Beverly flew out from Cle Elum, Washington to meet, hold, play and cuddle with Matilda. Bev was extremely excited to get her hands on her and was determined to make the most out of the time she had here. Matilda was approaching 4 weeks, so it was a great time to venture out of the house a bit too. While daddy worked during the day, the three of us explored on foot and train, different parts of the city. We walked through The Lincoln Park Zoo, Millenium and Grant Park, the waterfront, The Chicago Botanic Gardens, Lincoln Square, and our neighborhood trail along the Chicago River. Although Matilda was sleeping throughout most of our adventures, she did wake for a few moments. We could sense her excitement at she watched the monkeys, polar bears, and most surprising...the warthogs (perhaps she knows they are her daddy's favorite). She also caught an outdoor symphony performance that she clearly enjoyed as she became quite vocal after we left.
The week went by fast for everyone and we caught Bev rocking and loving up Matilda whenever she got a chance. We are all looking forward to spending more time with Grandma Bev and Grandpa Ray when they drive out here this fall for another visit. Matilda can't wait!

I took video a little over a week ago and had to post it. Who knew that hiccuping could be so cute!?!

Settling In

With a little over two weeks under her belt, Matilda is settling in quite well. So far sleeping is going so well, that we have to wake her every three to four hours for feedings and a quick diaper change. She has also taken to her nursery although she is still most comfortable in our room. She seems to like the pinks, purples and greens in her room and hasn’t complained that there is still only one strip of wallpaper up.

Matilda had her 1st doctors visit which went really well! She is very healthy and seems to be growing before our eyes. As the temperatures rise, we find ourselves wanting to walk everywhere and Matilda seems to really enjoy the fresh air, smells, sights and sounds. She loves the fact that Mora comes too...Matilda and Mora are becoming great buddies. Last night we went to dinner with her Nana and Papa Freeborn and she was on her best behavior...didn't even make a peep. It has really been a great couple of weeks and we look forward to next week when her Grandma Beverly will be here!
