11 Months Old

Matilda is now 11 months old. Hard to believe that we almost have a 1 year old on our hands!?! And boy, our hands are sure full right now. Matilda is crawling around everywhere and getting into EVERYTHING!!!
She can now pull herself up and walk around as long as she is holding onto something. As soon as she spots something from across the room that she hasn't touched before, she immediately stops what she's doing and is determined to go check it out.
Not a lot can stop this girl. She is quite curious and loves exploring.
And she is quite funny too. Matilda knows when she is doing something that may not be in her best interest. As soon as she realizes, she looks up at me or Nate and gives us a big grin, says "HIIII!" and waves. Very cleaver, since this gets us every time.
We are having a blast and absolutely adore everything about her!

Matilda's 1st Easter

The day before Easter, we decided to color eggs using only products that we had in our cupboards and fridge. We boiled five eggs, then dyed them using balsamic vinegar, cranberries, black tea, and turmeric. Here are the results...

Not bad?!? Next year we will try things a little differently and perhaps get better results.

On Sunday, Matilda put on her beautiful Easter dress and headed over to Nana and Papa's for a day full of fun, family and food!

The weather was perfect for the easter egg hunt. Matilda found two eggs and seemed very content as she sat there shaking them!
She loved watching her 3 cousins running around collecting the eggs and really got a kick out of them chasing each other. She can't wait to join in next time.

After the egg hunt, we went inside for a fabulous feast and opened our gifts from the Easter bunny. Matilda sat on Papa's lap as he helped her open her treats!

Much fun was had as we helped Matilda celebrate another 1st holiday!

Still Standing

Weekend Getaway

Every weekend, we try to get out of the city for a little while even if it means just going out to one of the forest preserves surrounding Chicago for a couple of hours. Well, this last weekend we were able to go a little further. Nate knocked it out at work and got home around 11 am and we hit the road just in time for Matilda to nap. An hour and a half later she woke up as we pulled in to Lakeside Michigan. Our friends Jim and Jennifer Klatt have a couple of places here and we stayed at their rental home which is just steps away from the lake.
Friday afternoon, we wandered down to the beach. It was beautiful, yet quite chilly so we jumped in the car to find a cafe to warm up in. With the help from the Garmin, we stumbled upon the quaint town of Three Oaks. We found a great little organic cafe and filled up on the most excellent food.

The next morning, we drove (during Matilda's naptime again) up to Saugatuck. I fell in love with this place last summer and it was great to go back. This time, there were no crowds so we were able to stroll down the streets, window shopping the many fun shops and galleries.

We ate, walked the lakefront, and stopped at the swings before hitting the road back to Lakeside. We then headed over to the Klatt's for a wonderful dinner. They have a beautiful 3 month little boy named Joseph who Matilda just loves to stare at. She seems so big and grown up next to him!

The next morning, Nate headed back to Three Oaks for a yoga class while Matilda, Mora and I went walking. Felt so nice to be surrounded by the trees, water, and fresh crisp Spring air.

We ate brunch then went to the Warren Dunes. Reminded me of the sand dunes in Oregon. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing before heading back to Chicago feeling totally refreshed!
